Formula Renault has been an essential stage in the career of many young drivers for close to thirty years. Alain Prost, René Arnoux, Didier Pironi and more recently Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, Robert Kubica, Felipe Massa and Jaime Alguersuari have all made a name for themselves in Formula Renault at the start of their careers.
A development programme covering over 6,000 kilometres, led by Renault Sport Technologies’ technical teams and the drivers Filipe Albuquerque, Alvaro Parente and Andy Soucek, clearly demonstrated the car’s improved performance levels. New Formula Renault 2.0 requires deft driving skills, very similar to those needed to drive a Formula Renault 3.5.
The race car meets the latest safety standards, its design featuring some of the most advanced technologies currently available. The car is equipped with some of the latest technical developments, including a seven-speed sequential gearbox with electric steering wheel-mounted paddles. This kind of transmission system was previously unavailable for race cars in this category or at this price.
Thanks to its improved design, outstanding reliability and a reduced number of spare parts, running costs for New Formula Renault 2.0 have dropped by a staggering 10%.The same performance level for all drivers and total sporting fairness remain the underlying principles of Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. It is now down to the drivers to let their talent to the talking on the racetrack.
