Seventeen-year-old Thomas Neubauer is preparing for his first season in single-seaters with Tech 1 Racing. The Frenchman, who has achieved success in the world of karting, is stacking all the odds in his favour to make the leap from karts to one of the most hotly-contested categories in motorsport.
Thomas Neubauer has been a regular contender on French and international circuits in karts and he finished third in this year’s French long circuit championship in KZ2. The 17-year-old driver is now fully involved in preparing for his next challenge – the Eurocup Formula Renault.
“I’m delighted to be making my single-seater debut in such a prestigious team as Tech 1 Racing,” he says. “The ambience is exceptional and their results speak for themselves. I can’t wait to begin the season, all the more so as we’re incredibly lucky to be able to race on several circuits used for Formula 1, including Monaco. We’ll be the curtain-raiser in F1, the WEC, the ELMS and Blancpain. It’s a really fantastic calendar.”
The hard-working conscientious Neubauer began preparing for his move several months ago by taking part in a Formula Renault 2.0 NEC meeting, and some rounds of the V de V Series in which he distinguished himself with a top-3 finish at Magny-Cours.
“I’ll soon be eighteen so I don’t have much time left to waste. Knowing that I’m coming into a really top-level championship I had to start preparing quickly so as not to be left behind. This experience gave me the opportunity to see how a weekend unfolds, the ambience, the starts and the battles in the mid-field. Karts and single-seaters are pretty different and you have to work hard in many areas to be fully prepared for the coming year and what may happen after that”
“At the moment I’m aiming for a good first season to learn the ropes,” Neubauer continues. “We’re focusing more on the Rookie Championship, and I hope to improve throughout the year so that I can do a second season in the best possible conditions. Whatever happens, above all I’d like to thank my parents who’ve done so much for me as have Repotel and Clinalliance.”
“We’re delighted to be able to count on Thomas Neubauer in 2017,” summed up Simon Abadie, the Tech 1 Racing Team Manager. “As Thomas comes from karts preparation was a bit more intense for him to give him the chance to acquire as much experience as possible. During his very intensive test programme we were able to see just how hard he works. With a full season and races in the FR 2.0 NEC we’re convinced that we’ll achieve good results together in the end. Our aim is to provide him with the best possible conditions to prepare for 2018.”
